Helping people live well with digital media
You are worried about someone else
If you are concerned about somone else and do not know what to do or how to approach them, contact Emil now. Emil will share with you what has worked for others. He will coach you through how you can respectfully gain their willingness to talk. Also, what positive things you can do if there is complete refusal.
Emils focus is on having 'the conversation' once, so it doesn't have to happen ever again... That's pretty appealing to most people.

You are worried about yourself
Emil wishes you to know that it takes a great deal of courage, grit & integrity to acknowledge that your actions are hurting you (and most likely others). And, to want to do something about it. This first of all must be acknowledged. That being said, Emil has an experienced knowledge of game titles and software. He researches and when possible, plays these titles & so will be able to relate & explain the psychology behind game mechanics and how you can get trained into certain behaviours and how to get out of them. He also takes a balanced view and see's that it can be a problem or part of a balanced life.

Treatment approach
Overall and in most cases, Emil takes the approach of repairing and re-empowering the family unit or key relationships around the problem behaviour. This happens in tandem with addressing the problem behaviour(s). This provides the benefit of all parties feeling safer, more respected and utilising the strength of many or few, when challenges arise... It's always easier to make change with the wanted help of others.
But why include the key relationships when there's one person with a dependance? Well, quite often the work starts here because the home environment has become very emotionally toxic. To effectively make positive change, the home environment needs to detoxify. Often, intial sessions identify relationships dynamics where conversations hardly occur. When they do, it results in conflict and power struggles. This can be characterised by threats, aggression, violence as well uncovered theft. Fear of self-harm may also in worried the minds of the carers. That is, there can be very real risks of harm from the person of concern to others as well as to themselves. So, the home environment must shift and detox so that the problem behaviour can more effectively be remolded and take root in a healthier home environement.
This isn't always whats needed and so treatment is adjusted between:
  • Relationship work only
  • Relationship work and individual therapy for the person of concern
  • Individual therapy only
This adjustment occurs at end of the intial assessment phase but can shift according to the needs of the client(s).
